Mekong Delta at a Glimpse (3 days / 2 nights). Culturally rich and steeped in centuries-old charm, Vietnam’s appeal lies in its unique artistic, religious and architectural heritage set against a backdrop of diverse natural beauty. Awaken your senses as this tour takes you through colourful, bustling markets and serene temples to palm-fringed beaches and rugged mountains, introducing some of the world’s friendliest people along the way (Lonely Planet guide book).
Day 1: HO CHI MINH CITY – CAI BE – VINH LONG (L-D)
Drive from Saigon to Cai Be, stopping en route at an elaborate Cao Dai Temple.
From Cai Be, take a boat trip along the mighty Mekong River and its tributaries
to view the daily lives of people who work and play on the waterways of the
Mekong Delta. The trip includes a visit to the unique "floating" market at Cai
Be, and to a family-run business producing rice paper - a key ingredient in
Vietnamese cuisine. Lunch is on an island mid-river, in a local house set
amongst fruit orchards and bonsai trees, and then followed by a performance of
traditional Vietnamese music. After lunch, continue on to Vinh Long.
(Seasonally, on the way to the Mekong Delta, we can enjoy the peaceful scenes of
farmers seeding, ploughing, and harvesting the rice crop.) We spend the night in
a typical Vietnamese local house. Overnight in Vinh Long.
Day 2: VINH LONG – CAN THO (B)
In the morning, visit craft industries in Vinh Long to see local residents make
tofu, floor tiles, bricks and do the farming. Drive to Can Tho and spend the
afternoon at a fruit market and visiting the Bang Lang bird sanctuary. Overnight
in Can Tho.
Day 3: CAN THO – HO CHI MINH CITY (B)
Take a boat ride from Ninh Kieu dock in Can Tho to visit the floating market in
Cai Rang. Cruise through small canals and stop at a fruit orchard to taste some
of the succulent fruits of the Mekong Delta. Return drive to Ho Chi Minh City.
